The Fremont Area Community Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable organization with a permanent collection of endowed funds created for and by the people of Newaygo County. It uses the income from the invested funds to make grants for a broad range of charitable projects that address community needs. The mission of the Foundation is to improve the quality of life for people in Newaygo County.
“We are awestruck by the caring and giving spirit of our community,” said Libby Cherin, Foundation President. “Today was a highlight of my two decades of Foundation work. We heard many stories of donors who wanted to help others and were willing to give of their resources.”
On September 18, the Foundation Board met and increased its original match from $150,000 to match the entire $408,885.72 given by the community. “Our Board wanted to respond to Match Day’s community generosity, and fortunately we were able to,” said Foundation Chairperson Danielle Merrill.
Match Day gifts ranged from $1 to over $5,700. Donors came as young as preschoolers and as old as 97 years. Match Day Grants to the Newaygo County nonprofits will be made on October 16.
